Owned by Tuscaloosa County, this facility installed a landfill gas capture and destruction system funded by carbon offset credits registered and verified by Climate Action Reserve. Without revenue from the offset credits the landfill gas capture project would not have been installed and maintained.

Indonesia is home to tropical peat swamp forests, which over centuries absorbed and continue to sequester the highest levels of carbon in the world. Due to the expansion of oil palm plantations and other deforestation trends, parts of southeast Asia are projected to lose up to 98 percent of their forests. Now, we can protect the Rimba Raya forest through VERs. Rimba Raya contains 65,000 hectares of forest and is home to hundreds of species of plants and animals, as well as, provides community development programs for 16 villages. With a capacity of 25 million cubic yards of waste, this facility installed a landfill capture and destruction system in 2011. The project includes a gas collection and control system with 54 vertical extraction wells connected via underground piping. The project destroys greenhouse gasses with a generator facility, open flare or thermal oxidizer. This GHG reduction project is located at a Dairy Farm in Elsie, MI. The farm consists of 7,000 acres of land and more than 9,500 cattle. Green Meadow utilizes a biogas control system that captures and destroys methane gas from anaerobic manure treatment. The project collects manure from eight barns and is fed to three complete-mixed digesters, with a total operating volume capacity of 2.67 million gallons. The resulting biogas is utilized by a generator and boiler, or destroyed by a flare. Separated solids are either composted or land applied and water from the process is recycled for various farm applications. The farm is also home to the Michigan State University Training Center for Dairy Professionals. With coal power plants consisting of 57% of India’s installed electricity generation, carbon offsets can play a crucial role in accelerating the transition to renewable power. CLP India is one of the largest developers of wind power in India with over 900 MW of committed projects. Offsets support a three phase project with a total installed wind capacity of 194 MW. The projects are spread across Western India near the villages of Sipla, Bhakrani and Mahidad. The Seneca Meadows landfill is New York’s largest non-hazardous solid waste facility, managing 6,500 tons of waste per day. The award-winning carbon financed project captures and prevents methane from landfill gas (LFG) from being vented directly into the atmosphere. The biogas is piped to a recovery facility where it is delivered to a gas-to-energy plant or flared. The LFG plant generates electricity to power 18,000 homes and the project prevents as much as 500,000 tonnes of CO2e from being emitted each year. The Seneca Meadows project also includes the opening of a 600 acre Seneca Meadows Wetlands Preserve. The Preserve restored 160 acres and created 420 new acres of wetlands after a landfill expansion.
